Arts
The PS254 visual art program is media rich, scaffolded, and age appropriate. Media explored include drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, printmaking, and 2D design. All students receive art at least once a week. The skills and content involve multiple entry points and build on the previous grade. The curriculum encourages higher order thinking and problem-solving to teach the Studio Habits of Mind as a work ethic to approach not only art making but visual literacy. Students will use visual art vocabulary as they analyze, discuss, and assess artwork. Students’ artwork is displayed throughout the school year. The curriculum is aligned with New York City’s Blueprint for the Arts as well as NY State Standards.
